Speak Gently- Explanation with reference to the context


Stanza 1:
               Speaking gently...........the good we may do there
Reference:
                          These lines have been taken from the poem, "Speak Gently".  This poem is written by an anonymous poet.

Context:
              In this poem the poet tells us the importance of speaking softly and mildly and advises us to speak gently with everyone either young or old.

Explanation:
                       In this stanza the poet asks us to speak in soft and kind words. It’s easier and better to get things done for you out of love and not by fear or threat. We must not destroy the good deeds we may do in this world by cruel and angry words we speak.
                     
Stanza 2:
                          Speak gently to the.............It may not long remain
Explanation:
                                     In these lines the poet says that we should speak politely to a child because he would not remain a child forever and then same habits would develop in him.

Stanza 3:
               speak gently to the aged...............let such in peace depart
Explanation:
                                     In these lines the poet says that we should speak gently with the aged people. Our words should not cause unhappiness to these worried and tired people whose years of life are mostly spent. They deserve our special love and care so they they could pass away from this world in peace.

Stanza 4:
                      Speak gently; 'tis a little thing............eternity shall tell.
Explanation:
                                     In this stanza, the poet tells us the importance of gentleness in manners and says that kind words cost nothing rather they deep and lasting impressions on the hearts of others and bring joy and happiness to us. The reward for this good behaviour would be given to us in the life after death.
